I have to admit I was initially unaware of nature’s treasures hidden right behind my back after I initially moved to Canada’s capital region. Drive north or east: Quebec and its pretty hills and lakes. Drive south: actual proper mountains in the state of New York.
Even better: the ADK46. A list of 46 of the highest peaks in Adirondacks you can climb after which you can call yourself a “forty sixer”. The hikes range from easy to hard and differ vastly in conditions depending on what time of year you hike. I recently hiked three peaks in the winter that were supposed to be “easy”, but I would never call them such.
I count myself lucky I discovered this area and am on my way to becoming a 46er. Whether I become one doesn’t matter. I’m happy to have the opportunity to walk and witness the trails and nature of the Adirondacks.
